High THC Seeds

The extremely high band

Dutch Passion sorts its catalogue into THC bands rather than publishing a single percentage per strain, and the five varieties here are the ones in the top band. The banding is honest rather than coy: the same seed grown under different light, feeding and harvest timing will not test the same twice, and a precise-looking number on a seed packet is a number about somebody else’s grow room, not yours.

What the band does tell you is that these five were selected for potency and that they consistently outperform the rest of the catalogue on it.

The five

• Auto Cinderella Jack — hybrid autoflower, ten to eleven weeks from seed, XL yield. The strongest autoflower Dutch Passion has released, and the only auto in this group. Genetics are (Cinderella 99 × Jack Herer) × Magnum.
• HiFi 4G — hybrid, eight weeks, XL yield. WiFi OG crossed with Glueberry O.G.; earthy, sour, heavy.
• Meringue — hybrid, eight weeks, XL yield. Sweet and dessert-like, from the USA Special family.
• Mokum’s Tulip — hybrid, eight weeks, XL yield. Compact, very resinous, fast.
• Sugar Bomb Punch — indica, nine weeks, XXL yield. The heaviest yielder here and the only indica-dominant one.

Four of the five finish in eight or nine weeks, which is unusual — high-THC varieties have historically been slow sativa-dominant plants. These are not.

Growing for potency

Potency is genetic ceiling plus everything you do afterwards, and the two things that most often waste the ceiling are harvest timing and light.

Harvest by trichome colour rather than by the calendar. Cloudy trichomes with a few amber is the usual target for maximum THC; wait until most have gone amber and a noticeable share has degraded to CBN, which produces a heavier, sleepier effect rather than a stronger one. A cheap jeweller’s loupe is enough to see this.

Light intensity is the other half. These strains will produce a decent result at moderate light levels and a markedly better one at high intensity, which indoors means a properly specified LED and not simply a brighter room.

Heat works against you. Above about 28°C, terpenes volatilise and the aroma thins out — worth planning for in a Thai grow room, where ambient temperature is already close to the ceiling before the lights come on.

Finally, cure properly. A fortnight in sealed jars at around 60% humidity, opened briefly each day, does more for perceived strength than any amount of extra feeding — badly dried flower from strong genetics is still badly dried flower.
